Revised Fire Safety Guidance for Private Landlords
The Scottish Government recently issued revised guidance for private landlords on satisfactory fire alarm provision permitting the use of tamper proof long-life lithium battery alarms to comply with the repairing standard from 1 March 2019.
The revised guidance has now been published on the Scottish Government website.
This guidance will cease to have effect from 1 February 2021, at which time private landlords should refer to the Scottish Government guidance on the tolerable standard, Chapter 16: Satisfactory Fire Detection.
Update on Repairs Contractors for Council Tenants
Please note, this post has been reposted as there was an issue with viewing the table on text only devices – the table has been replaced with text only.
Further to the McGills administration we have now successfully arranged stand-in contractors from our existing group of housing repairs providers. The table below shows the contractors for each type of job by area. All other contractors remain the same.
Brechin – Aids and Adaptations and Change of Tenancy repairs – Milnbank
Montrose – Aids and Adaptations and Change of Tenancy repairs – Derek McNulty Joiners
Forfar and Kirriemuir – Joinery – QAPM
Thank you for your patience while we were putting these arrangements in place.

Looking for Council housing? We need your views on furniture supply.
Furniture Project Survey
Have you applied for Council housing? If so, we’d like to know what your plans are for furnishing your home, and whether you’d be interested in a new option.
We are looking into the possibility of providing new furniture and white goods at a weekly cost to help our tenants turn their houses into homes.
Under such a scheme, tenants would buy points and use the points to rent what they need. Weekly payments would be added to rent payments.
Before deciding to proceed with this project, we want to know if it would meet the needs of tenants and be something that tenants would use.
We are running a short Furniture Project Survey to collect applicants’ views between now and 15 March.
If you are on our waiting list, please give us your opinions by completing the survey.
Tenant Participation Strategy Update
Last Thursday we sat down again with our Tenant Steering Group, to give them the 1st draft of the new Tenant Participation Strategy. Some of the members looked over the draft document and they said they were happy that all their comments and feedback had been taken on board.
The group will take away the draft to fully review it and come back at the next meeting to give full feedback and comments. Initial thoughts were positive and we look forward to the next meeting to get a good discussion going about the content of the draft.
If you would like to get involved with Tenant Participation Strategy please contact TenantParticipation@angus.gov.uk and we will discuss participation options with you, and work out the best way for you to be involved.
Repairs: Information for Tenants Affected by McGills’ Administration
It is with sadness we’ve heard of Dundee construction firm McGill & Company Ltd. going into administration. The contractor held our council housing maintenance contracts for change of tenancy and aids and adaptation works in Montrose and Brechin and joinery repairs in Forfar and Kirriemuir.
We are currently arranging for alternative contractors to take on this work and, in the meantime, we are only able to carry out emergency works. We hope to have new arrangements in place in the coming days and would ask for patience until this is finalised.
