New five-week distance video and email ESOL course is now avauilable at Dundee International Women’s Centre (DIWC).

In an all-women environment, find out about international English exams and how passing them can help you work and study in the UK.

Online English Classes at Dundee International Women’s Centre

Online English classes! 

Meet other women learners from around the world.

Dundee International Women’s Centre (DIWC) has an exciting online
ESOL programme for 2021! These classes will increase your confidence in English and are free for DIWC members (membership costs just £6 for a year).

Classes are by email and Zoom. All you need is a mobile, tablet or computer with microphone, camera and internet connection, plus a working email address. Don’t worry if you’re new to Zoom, they will show you what to do – you don’t need to have lots of IT skills!

CONVERSATION CAFÉ 

Tuesdays 1-2, from 12 January. For Pre-Intermediate students 

A relaxed opportunity to practice and develop your speaking and listening skills while meeting new people and having fun too. Each week they’ll look at a different topic to do with living in Scotland. Bring your lunch!

ELEMENTARY ENGLISH 

Tuesdays 10-12, from 12 January. For Elementary students 

Improve all aspects of your English – reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation – in this very friendly and welcoming class. All learning materials provided.

Free English classes (ESOL) available in Angus

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme is for those who want to learn and improve their English skills.

We run classes suitable for Beginners and Intermediate.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus situation, we are only running classes online. These take place weekday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm.

We are working to hold ‘face-to-face’ classes again, but this may not be possible until the start of 2021.

Living well with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – Connect with Others Online in September and October

In September and October, MS Society Scotland will deliver Virtual Living Well with MS sessions which offer the chance to meet other people living with the condition. The sessions are an opportunity to have a chat, reflect on and share experience.

The virtual sessions will take place over 4 weeks.

 between 6.30pm and 8pm

Supporting World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is held annually on 10 September. The main aims of this initiative are to:

  • raise awareness that suicide is preventable,
  • improve education about suicide,
  • spread information about suicide awareness and
  • decrease stigmatization of suicide.

Free English classes available in Angus

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes will start back on 26 August.

The ESOL programme is for students who want to learn and improve their English skills.

We provide free evening classes in Forfar, Brechin, Montrose and Arbroath for both beginners and intermediate students which can also lead to SQA qualifications. Details of classes are below:

Financial Help for Lower-Income Families from Social Security Scotland

Best Start Grant is a package of three payments intended to give financial support to lower-income families during the key early years of a child’s life. The Best Start Grant payments will be fully available by summer 2019.

Social Security Scotland will start taking applications for these grants on the following dates:

  • The Early Learning Payment (a one off payment of £250 for children aged between two and three and a half) – from 8am on 29 April 2019; and
  • The School Age Payment (a one off payment of £250 around the time a child would normally start Primary 1) – from 8am on 3 June 2019.

This training is open to everyone who lives or works in Angus and is an introductory course for anyone interested in learning to be suicide-aware.
