Our contractor, Bancon Construction, recently visited Newtyle Primary School to undertake a safety talk with the children at the school. Bancon are building 12 new council houses on a site next to the school.
Dawn Kane, Business Development Manager at Bancon said:
“Health and safety is our no. 1 priority, not only on site but within our communities. Safeguarding of the children at Newtyle Primary School is extremely important due to our construction activities taking place next to the school. The first step in our safety measures was to present a safety talk during an assembly to make the children aware of the works taking place, what they can expect to see and the dangers that will be around them, albeit the other side of the fence! The children will now participate in a competition to design a safety poster to show us what they learned from the presentation. Our industry is experiencing a skills shortage and gender gap and we hope that our work with schools gives some of the children the inspiration to pursue a career in the construction industry.”

Our aspiring Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) was approved by Councillors last week.
The SHIP was developed in partnership with Housing Associations and the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership, along with our own planning and property services sections. The main purpose of the Plan is to set out the investment priorities for affordable housing over a five year period.
The SHIP makes sure we and our partners deliver housing which meets the needs of the local community and informs Scottish Government investment decisions. It includes affordable housing supply through new build, replacement, renovation and re-modelling.
We and our partners aim to deliver 120 new affordable homes each year, significantly increasing development over the lifetime of the LHS and beyond. This target was exceeded in 2018/19 with 128 units delivered across Angus. Up to the end of August 2019, 38 units have been completed, and it’s likely that the target of 120 units will be exceeded again this year.
Funding for affordable housing has been increased in recent years to meet the national target of 50,000 affordable homes within the lifetime of the current Scottish parliament. Our SHIP estimates that around 510 units could be delivered in the period to 2024/25, with the Council set to deliver around 272 of those homes.

Little Cairnie Discounted Affordable Housing Guidance for Purchasers
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Forfar, visited Forfar yesterday.
On a fine sunny day, they were received by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Angus Georgiana Osborne, Angus Provost Ronnie Proctor and our Chief Executive Margo Williamson.
During their visit, their Royal Highnesses walked in the town centre and visited Academy Court to meet with the residents there.
We can confirm that we have met our 2018/19 target for new build affordable homes, with 33 Council and 95 Housing Association properties delivered through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme!
The Scottish Government allocates money each year to part fund affordable housing projects to help achieve their target of 50,000 new supply affordable homes over the lifetime of the parliament. If councils don’t spend their allocated funds, it goes back into a ring-fenced housing fund.
For the second year running our Angus programme was able to claim more than its allocated funding, due to slippage elsewhere.
This year over £8m of grant money was claimed which is a substantial increase from previous years.

An impression of the new homes to be built in Newtyle.
Work has officially begun on our new housing in Newtyle .The company Bancon Construction has been appointed to build 12 new homes for affordable rent.

Demand for affordable homes has risen in Newtyle over recent years as pressure on existing housing has increased. We want Angus to be a great place to live, work and visit.
